Created from Organic and Sustainable Material
All of our products are made from sustainable, natural materials that are good for your child and the planet. Each item in Petite Miette’s line of organic accessories is made with 100% organic cotton and dyed using an environmentally friendly process. All of our packaging and printed materials are selected thoughtfully and incorporate sustainable practices and recycled materials wherever feasible.
Methods and Materials
All items in the Petite Miette line are made from 100% organic cotton fabrics, the vast majority of which are grown and milled in the United States. All garment manufacturing and packaging is done in Los Angeles, CA. The colors are achieved through a low-impact, environmentally friendly, fiber reactive dye process. Whenever feasible, all packaging and printing is done using FSC certified products.
Conventionally farmed cotton uses large amounts of pesticides and is then subjected to numerous chemical treatments as the cotton is prepared for fabric production and use. Conventional cotton products are also generally dyed using chemicals and processes involving heavy metals. Thus, conventional practices not only put a tremendous strain on our environment, but they potentially expose us to harmful chemicals. Farmers raising organic cotton rely on sustainable agricultural practices that use fewer resources, resulting in an overall smaller carbon footprint, and emitting fewer greenhouse gases.
Low-impact dyeing is currently the best choice for the environment and the consumer. It uses fewer resources than other processes and the dyes do not contain heavy metals or other toxic substances. The result is an environmentally friendly process that produces intense and stable colors.
Care and Use
All fabrics are pre-washed and pre-shrunk. Nevertheless, this does not guarantee that there will be no further shrinkage. In order to reduce future shrinkage, all items should be washed in cold water and dried at low temperatures. This will extend the life of the items and save energy resources.
Colors
The colors are all achieved through a low-impact dyeing process. This process allows the color to be molecularly bonded with the fabric fibers, thus creating a stable and sustainable color.
The items are dyed in batches which means that, while we’ve worked hard to achieve our color formulas, the colors may vary slightly from item to item.
Washing the items in cold water not only saves resources, but will also ensure the best results for maintaining the colors over the long term.
Sizing
The sizes of the wearable products are generous and are created to fit even those children who are at the higher end of the height/weight spectrum for the given sizes.
