How We Started
Petite Miette is an environmentally and socially conscious company started by Sarah Conley Odenkirk in 2007. After more than a dozen years of building a successful law practice as a lawyer for the fine arts, Sarah decided it was time to pursue her own creative venture and founded Petite Miette. Sarah’s designs bring color to the generally neutral world of organic children’s accessories. Inspired by the selection of colorful, high quality children’s goods available in France, and seeking interesting organic baby products for her own children, Sarah designed her line to be environmentally conscious without sacrificing aesthetics or sophistication. Her business practices emphasize earth-friendly choices and fair labor practices.
Why the bunny?
While living in the south of France during her senior year of college, Sarah became close friends with a French couple who had a pet rabbit named "Miette." Enchanted by the sound of the rabbit's name, Sarah asked if it had a particular meaning. After a long and hilarious discussion involving breads and cakes, Sarah finally understood that the name "Miette" meant "crumb." This conversation has remained as a treasured memory of her time in France and the generosity of her friends.
Almost 20 years later, the rabbit is long gone, but the friendship endures and continues to be a source of joy. Sarah and her French friends remain close and now enjoy watching their children play together during their far too infrequent visits.
When deciding on a name and logo for her new company, "Petite Miette" and a bunny image were a natural choice given the goals of the company and Sarah's inspiration.
